Postwar to Postmodern
The Docomomo US National Symposium Miami: Streams of Modernity: Postwar to Postmodern includes an exciting variety of lectures, tours and social events.
The Symposium kicks off on Wednesday, May 29, with an opening keynote by Rosa Lowinger entitled Modern Materials, Tropical Identities: Preservation as a Tool for Personal and Communal Repair. This keynote address takes place in the midcentury Cosford Cinema on the University of Miami (UM) campus, followed by a reception at the Lowe Art Museum.
On Thursday, May 30, Symposium guests have the option of enjoying a bus, boat, or walking tour from 9:30am–12pm. Grab lunch at one of the local spots in Coconut Grove or on the UM campus, then get ready for educational sessions, which start at 1pm at the UM School of Architecture. Sessions wrap-up at 5:15pm, coffee and tea service with light snacks to be provided. On Thursday evening, there is an exclusive tour of Alfred Browning Parker's Woodsong, as well as a second house to be announced, followed by a reception at the Tigertail residence by Trelles Architects.
Friday, May 31, follows the same schedule as Thursday, with morning tours from 9:30am–12pm and educational sessions from 1–5:15pm on the UM campus. The last session of the day includes an In Memoriam for Jean Louis Cohen, hosted by a special group of his close friends and colleagues. The closing keynote, Challenges of Modernity and their Impact on Modern Movement, presented by Docomomo International Chair Uta Pottgeisser rounds out the day.
On Saturday June 1, guests enjoy a variety of bus and boat tours in and around Miami.
